People who know me will probably think it is strange I am doing a blog on George Michael. I am not ,nor was I ever a fan. In fact I didn’t like his music at all.
However despite all that, even I cannot deny that George Michael was a phenomenal singer and performer. When I saw him on April 20,1992 during the The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, performing “Somebody to Love” I was blown away by his voice. I was sure that the remaining members of Queen were going to ask George to take Freddie’s place in the band, But that did not happen.
I can understand why he changed his name from Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou to George Michael.
The date March 7 is linked to 2 significant events in relation to George Michael. In 1991 the readers of Rolling Stone voted George Michael the best male singer and sexiest male artist.
On March 7,2017, Darren Salter, senior coroner for Oxfordshire. confirmed that George Michael died as a result of heart and liver disease.
“As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further inquiries. No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”
Finishing up with that legendary performance where he joined Queen on stage.
