My Interview with David Honeyford—Alliance Party MLA-Northern Ireland

I had the privilege to talk with David Honeyford. David is an Alliance MLA (Members of the Legislative Assembly) for Lagan Valley and was first elected in May 2022. The Alliance party was founded in 1970 to bridge the bitter divisions in our community and build a shared society for everyone.

We had a chat about the current political stalemate in Northern Ireland.
He was first elected to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council at the 2019 local elections for the Killultagh constituency. He topped the poll, with 20.3% of first preference votes and gained a seat for Alliance at the expense of the DUP’s William Leathem. It was the first time an Alliance candidate had won in the Killultagh constituency.

He was later elected as an MLA in the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election for Lagan Valley, alongside fellow Alliance Party candidate Sorcha Eastwood, after winning 4,183 First Preference Votes.

David is also a big rugby fan and is involved in the Glenavy GAC Gaelic Football Club. He is also a fan of U2.
