Mother’s Finest were probably the first band to fuse Rock with Funk.
45 years ago they released their biggest hit to date “Piece of the Rock” It is a song is about people who are all searching for something more in their lives, success, money food, etc. The story teller is saying that everyone wants to get their hands on something valuable and they should all strive to “get a piece of the rock” or get their share of the good things in life.
