About

Welcome to History of Sorts! This blog is your gateway to the fascinating, lesser-known side of history—the unexpected events, unique people, and curious twists that don’t always make it into the textbooks. Here, we dig into moments that shaped cultures, changed societies, and left lasting legacies, all told through intriguing stories that bridge the past with the present.

This blog primarily focuses on World War II and the Holocaust, delving deeply into these pivotal events and the lessons they hold. But it doesn’t stop there—History of Sorts also explores other captivating aspects of history, along with occasional insights into current affairs. Through a blend of in-depth research and storytelling, this blog aims to connect past events to the present, offering a thoughtful perspective on history’s lasting impact.

Who is behind the blog?

My name is Dirk de Klein. I’m not a professional historian, but I have a deep personal passion for history. I was born in a small town called Geleen, located in the province of Limburg in the southeastern Netherlands. In 1997, I moved to Ireland, where I’ve lived ever since. Through this blog, I combine my fascination with history and my love of storytelling, sharing insights and discoveries that I hope will inspire others as much as they inspire me.

I hope you will enjoy the blog.
