In general I do a lot of history blogs which are often hard hitting, but every once in a while I like to do something more lighthearted.
Aside from history, music is one of my great passions and especially Rock music. This blog is a compilation of an A-Z Rock music guide. I say a guide because it will contain not the most commonly known Rock bands. but bands I really like. So sit back and relax Dirk’s A-Z Rock Music guide.

I have to apologize upfront because after reading this blog you will never listen to the songs again in the same way. It is not one of my usual blogs, but I was listening to the radio this morning and 2 songs were played in succession which basically had very disturbing lyrics.
Most people who listen to the song “Young Girl” by Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, will hear a sweet but sad romantic song. However when you actually analyse the lyrics you discover it is a song about border line pedophilia.
It is a tale about a man in a relationship with a young girl.Looking at some lines in the lyrics there is no denying that the relationship is highly inappropriate.
“My love for you is way out of line.Better run girl. You’re much too young girl”
“Beneath your perfume and your make-upYou’re just a baby in disguise
And though you know that it’s wrong to be alone with met hat come on look is in your eyes”
“So hurry home to your mama I’m sure she wonders where you are. Get out of here before I have the time to change my mind Cause I’m afraid we’ll go too far”
The other song was a classic Rock song by ZZ Top, called “Francine” from their album “Rio Grande Mud”
Very much like “Young Girl” this song is also about a relationship between a man and a young girl, but in this song the age of the girl is given
Which is more disturbing it is not clear in the lyrics if the love is mutual, it doesn’t appear to be that way. There is a hint of her being in love with the brother “And if I caught her with my mother’s son” Below is the full text of the song so you can make up your own mind
“Got a girl, her name’s Francine finest thing you ever seen
And I love her, she’s all that I want and I need her, she’s all that I need
Well, Francine, oh Francis, why do you love me and make me cry?
How I love her, she’s all that I want.How I need her, she’s all that I need.
If I ever caught her with Stevie P I’d throw her back in the Penitentiary, now
And if I caught her with my mother’s son I’ll call her daddy and get my gun
My Francine just turned thirteen She’s my angelic teenage queen
And I love her, she’s all that I want And I need her, she’s all that I need”
Although I do enjoy the songs because despite the dodgy lyrics they are both considered classics, I just don’t think they would get away with nowadays.
