AC/DC’s first singer.

AC/DC will celebrate their 50th anniversary later this year. I was surprised to find out that their first singer wasn’t Bon Scott but, Dave Evans, Although he only recorded one song with the band.

He was the original lead singer for AC/DC in 1973–1974 and sang on their debut single and one other single shortly ,before being replaced by Bon Scott. Evans then went on to join the band Rabbit who were active into the early 1980s. He resumed a solo career shortly after the year 2000.

Dave recorded AC/DC’s first two singles, “Can I Sit Next To You Girl” and “Baby, Please Don’t Go”. But in October 1974, less than a year after AC/DC’s first gig, Evans was out of the band.

    1. I recognise that there was a predecessor and a successor to Bon Scott, both admirable singers.

But the only singer for the band that to me is the true sound of AC/DC is Bon, I was shaken by his passing as in the great big scheme of things I had only known about the band for around two years.

From the start, I thought they were excellent, Angus and his school uniform and Bon singing lyrics that half the time I couldn’t understand. But for me it didn’t matter, they stood out amongst the rubbish that was on the radio.

Continuing the theme, I’m Scottish and my surname is Young, no relation that I know of, as a teenager I would sometimes (to the gullible) pretend I was the second cousin twice removed of Angus which very occasionally would get me a free drink.

Happy memories. Thank you for stirring them.
