Voor de Nederlandse slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog

Beneath the bells that softly toll,
In hush of dusk, we bare our soul.
Two minutes still, the world stands shy,
As tears fall slow from silent sky.

We speak no names — yet all are near,
The brave, the lost, the ones held dear.
From city square to windswept dune,
Their memory hums a mournful tune.

In fields once scarred by iron tread,
Now bloom the flowers for the dead.
Their voices echo in the trees,
In whispered wind and lapping seas.

The train that left, the door that slammed,
The letters stamped, the lives unplanned.
The mothers gone, the fathers torn,
The silence where the child was born.

But still we stand, and still we vow,
To keep them close, then, now — and how
We walk in peace, because they bore
The weight of hate, and so much more.

So light the flame, and bow the head,
Let not their stories go unsaid.
In every soul, a bell shall chime:
We will remember, every time.

In Stille Schaduw — Een Gedicht voor Dodenherdenking
Voor de Nederlandse slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog

Onder klokken, traag en zacht,
Staan wij stil in avondwacht.
Twee minuten – niets beweegt,
De stilte spreekt wat niet verweegt.

Geen naam genoemd, toch zijn ze daar,
Zo levend in ons openbaar.
Van stad tot strand, van bos tot plein,
Hun echo klinkt in ieder sein.

Waar eens de rupsband aarde brak,
Groeit nu de bloem in stille tak.
Hun stemmen leven in de wind,
In elk gerucht dat troost begint.

De trein die reed, de deur die sloeg,
Het lot dat in een stempel woog.
Een kind dat zwijgt, een moeder kwijt,
Een vader die geen morgen krijgt.

Maar wij staan op, en blijven trouw,
Aan wat zij gaven – wij en jou.
Dat wij in vrede verder gaan,
Is door hun offer, stil gedaan.

Ontsteek het licht, buig hoofd en hart,
Laat nooit hun namen zonder start.
In elke ziel luidt zachte klank:
Voor altijd in herinnering onze eeuwige dank.
