My interview with John Michael Dolan -Author of Mrs. Wallenberg: a Holocaust romance

In his latest Holocaust novel, Dolan reimagines one of history’s greatest adventure tales by unearthing a scorching love affair long buried beneath the rubble of war. History and desire collide in Mrs. Wallenberg—and in these pages, you’ll discover truths about both that you never knew.

The year is 1944. The place: Budapest, as Hungary’s Jews face Nazi annihilation. Into the chaos steps Raoul Wallenberg, a 32-year-old Swedish envoy dispatched from Stockholm on a desperate mission to halt the slaughter.

His fearless compassion ignites something deep in Berber Smit—a fiery, sharp-witted interpreter at the embassy. She narrates this tale five decades later, recalling the explosive romance that bloomed in the shadow of genocide.

Soon, Berber and Raoul are entwined in a love as passionate as it is perilous. But as the SS closes in and the stakes rise, their fragile future hangs by a thread. Berber prays the advancing Red Army will bring salvation in time.

When liberation finally comes, it arrives with a twist neither of them anticipated—thrusting Berber into a deadly new mission of her own…

If you’re the kind of reader who craves an intelligent historical thriller laced with forbidden romance; who cheers for heroines as brainy as they are bold; who wants sex on the page the way it should be—don’t walk to get your copy of Mrs. Wallenberg… run. As Berber says in the unforgettable opening line: “Here’s a story you won’t soon be forgetting.”

This my interview with him.
