Auschwitz May 20 1940

AUSCHWITZ

When people hear the word Auschwitz ,a shiver goes down their spine, and that is a good thing. However so many people do not really know that much about Auschwitz. They think it was only one camp, where there were really many other camps connected to Auschwitz. about 40.

Some even think that from day 1, thousands of Jewish prisoners were transported to Auschwitz, but the when the first transport tool place on May 20 1940, 80 years ago today, there were only 30 prisoners.

The transport consisted of some 30 German inmates, who were branded  as “professional criminals.”  In Nazi Germany it didn’t take much to be categorized a professional criminal .The SS had selected them from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp outside of Berlin

Less then a month later , on June 14 another 728 inmates were transported to Auschwitz. The transport consisted  of 728 Poles including 20 Polish Jews. They were dubbed ‘political prisoners’ and members of the Polish resistance. They were transported from a prison in Tarnow. Among them was Stanisław Ryniak he was designated number 31 and the first political prisoner.

Dear Iwan Rebałka, this is your data which is used to make up your statistics.

Born -February 6, 1925 in Kreis Krasnopilla, Russland—an area which is now the part of Ukraine.

Religion – Greek Orthodox

Job at time of arrest-Milkman

Deported to Auschwitz – August 20, 1942

Assigned number – 60308 marked as political prisoner. Red triangle.

But you are not just data, You are a human being. Technically you were a man for 23 days, for just over 3 weeks you were a man. But an evil regime did not allow you to become a man. They arrested you for no apparent reason, you were seen as a lesser person. They called you a political prisoner. An enemy of the state. But whose state? It certainly wasn’t theirs, because they invaded and occupied your country. They were the enemy of your state.

You were only a young milkman trying to make a living.

They killed you by injecting a a phenol into your heart.

You just made it to manhood but really you were just an innocent boy ,dressed in a striped pajamas.

The Green Triangle -The first prisoners in Auschwitz

gREEN

Many people believe that the industrialized scale killing of Jews, Homosexuals,Roma and others in Auschwitz started immediately when the camp had opened.

But the fact is that for the first few weeks there were only 30 prisoners. On May 20,1940 the first 30 numbers were assigned to  German prisoners who had been designated as professional criminals.

They were known as “greens” after the green triangles they were required to wear on their prison clothing.

Up to the 14th of June these were the only prisoners in Auschwitz. The prisoner assigned number 31 was the first political prisoner. He was Stanisław Ryniak a Polish political prisoner who had arrived on June 14,1940 with the first mass transport to Auschwitz.

31

Stanislaw survived and died aged 88 on February 13, 2004.

The first gassings started at September 3, 1941.
