Karen Reb Rudel, a Jewish American, has called Paris home for over 20 years. She lives with her French husband and young son in a charming suburb just outside the city and is the founder of Sight Seeker’s Delight, a walking tour company. Adapting to changing times, she has expanded her offerings to include Virtual Experiences of Paris, bringing the magic of the city to audiences worldwide.
Karen is deeply passionate about sharing her Jewish heritage, and you’ll often find her in Le Marais, the historic heart of Jewish Paris. Before COVID-19, her most popular walking tour was the Jewish History of Le Marais. Today, her Jewish Paris Virtual Experience has become a favorite for those eager to explore the city’s rich Jewish past from anywhere in the world.
During her tours, Karen often meets Holocaust survivors or the children and grandchildren of survivors. On one memorable occasion, a tour guest shared the extraordinary story of her grandfather—a Jewish man who was part of the French Resistance.
His resistance group was warned that having a Jewish member put them all in danger and that he had to be eliminated. However, instead of carrying out the order, they devised a plan to save him. They staged his execution, even going so far as to bury him, only to return and dig him up a few hours later.
Stories like these—filled with courage, resilience, and humanity—are rarely found in history books.
Whilst filming Benjamin Franklin for Apple TV, Michael Douglas joined on of her tour.
