On Normandy’s shores ‘neath dawn’s pale light,
Brave souls stormed forth to end the night.
Steel met sand in thunder’s cry,
While hopes and fears rode sea and sky.
The tide of war began to turn,
As freedom’s fire began to burn.
Through blood and grit, the path was paved—
By those who fought, the world was saved.

Normandy Beach D-Day
Into the Jaws of Death:
Down the ramp of a Coast Guard landing craft, American soldiers surge toward the beach under a hail of enemy fire. It is D-Day — the massive Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France. Ahead, troops can be seen lying flat, taking cover from the relentless machine gun fire of entrenched German defenders.

Original German Caption (Translated to English):
The invasion has begun.
At all threatened points along the French west coast, German artillery and German soldiers are in position to receive the invaders.
A few seconds after the alarm signal, the men rush to their posts (above).
The heavy shells are transported to the artillery (below).
