humble fool (a poem)

(armedwithcoffee)

my feelings wrong
to express, to have at all
didn’t keep me from
loving you. at all.

a proper fool
i am, i was.

a strand of hair in your eye,
swatted away.
a void for you where
respect once lived.

for you to have known
you’d have to care.

for all that time
the obvious there.
my feelings wrong
i loved you at all.

bridges burned.
connection lost.
to a cold and indifferent man
and laughing gods.

i remain a humble fool
to the universe.

Love, it is a fate resigned / Over futile odds / And laughed at by the gods
