I often hear people say ‘that teenagers never has it as hard as they do now’. In a time where my generation failed to equip these teenagers with the resilience to deal with adversity, it is the absolute wrong message to sent out.
In this post there will be small bios of teenagers who were murdered this day 80 years ago. Prior to their murder they were forced out of their homes, did not get the time to say goodbye to friends, and perhaps didn’t even get the time to finish the book they were reading.
One group of teenagers from the Netherlands, a small nation in Europe, Just one group on one day. Just think about that for a minute.

Jansje de Hond-Born in Rotterdam, 28 April 1928 –Murdered in Auschwitz, 8 October 1942.Reached the age of 14 years. There was no picture available of Jansje was a daughter of Philip de Hond and Heintje van de Kar. Both of her parents were also murdered in Auschwitz but not on the same day.
Ruth Nussbaum-Born in Emden, 11 April 1928 –Murdered in Auschwitz, 8 October 1942.Reached the age of 14 years.
Gretha Philips-Born in Amsterdam, 30 August 1928 – Murdered in Auschwitz, 8 October 1942.Reached the age of 14 years-No picture available.
Kitty Margaretha Pesaro-Born in Soerabaja, 8 October 1925(Indonesia) – Murdered in Auschwitz, 8 October 1942.Reached the age of 17 years. What is particularly sad here is that if her family would have stayed in Soerabaja, she more then likely would have survived. No picture available

Salomon Aronius-Born in Zwartsluis, 9 March 1929- Murdered in Auschwitz, 8 October 1942. Reached the age of 13 years. According to tradition Salomon (Salo) Aronius a handsome boy, was always dressed neatly. He went to the primary school in Zwartsluis in the Schoolstraat.

Grietje Levie-Born in Meppel, 6 November 1926 –Murdered in Auschwitz, 8 October 1942. Reached the age of 15 years. Grieje was a daughter of Jopie Levie,who was married to Marianne Finsi. Nine children were born to the couple, two of whom died in the first year of life.
In August 1942, Jopie Levie was ordered to report for work at Orvelte labour camp. Having been allowed home on leave on 2 October, he was arrested together with his wife and six of their children that same day.
There were more Dutch teenagers murdered on October 8,1942 but my heart couldn’t take it any longer to look into the eyes of children, Some of them were my daughter’s age.
It was also strange in another way for me. because of the names of the 1300 + Dutch Jewish citizens murdered that day ,was the name of a close friend of mine and that of her Father. It was just the names , nit the persons but it was bizarre to see it, and brought it close to me, personally, yet again.
So please when you hear someone say how bad teenagers have it nowadays, just show them these names.
