Delphine Anja Jennifer Drielsma—Three-Year-Old Enemy of the State

Delphine Anja Jennifer Drielsma

Delphine was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on 19 June 1939. and murdered in Auschwitz, Poland, on 24 September 1942. She reached the age of three.

A 3-year-old enemy of the state. Which state, though?

In a world where shadows linger, cold and gray,
A tender soul was taken far away,
Innocence wrapped in curls of golden light,
A three-year-old girl was lost to the night.

Her laughter once filled mornings with delight,
Her tiny hands reaching, holding tight,
In the garden of dreams, she danced so freely,
Unaware of the darkness yet to be.

Auschwitz, a place where angels fell,
A living nightmare, a harrowing hell,
She was too young to know the reasons why,
Her world was shattered beneath a cruel sky.

Innocence crushed by hatred’s heavy hand,
A small life ended by a brutal command,
She faced the horrors no child should see,
In the heart of Auschwitz, where shadows flee.

Her memory now, a whisper in the breeze,
A silent cry among the weeping trees,
We remember her, a symbol of the cost,
Of innocence and beauty, so cruelly lost.

May her spirit soar where angels sing,
In fields of light, where eternal springs,
No more sorrow, only endless day,
In a world where shadows fade away.

For the three-year-old girl, taken too soon,
Under the stars and the watchful moon,
We promise to hold her memory dear,
A beacon of love that conquers fear.
